Guide to finding cheap airfare

Finding the cheapest and most convenient airfare can be arduous but with these tricks, you will be able to find the best prices with little effort.

The hot site of the moment
Airfare Watchdog is my new favorite search engine for the best prices on the web. When they find a particularly amazing price, they will post it to Twitter or other social media. I also like that they post the best deals from your hub and that you can sign up for price drop notifications.

Travel search engines
Expedia has had good deals lately, but you are wise to check them aginst other sites like Orbitz to see if you can find a better route. These sites will price match and give a gift card if you find a lower price. Many travel search engines such as the ones I have named above have begun to give points based on the amount you spend. Points can are redeemable for upgrades and other perks.

Package deals
These deals are sometimes the best buys on the web;, especially with air and hotel. Do your homework and look at the same airfare and hotel prices with and without the package. It’s a quick and simple step that can save you hundreds of dollars on your trip.

Go incognito
Web sites track you via cookies and will know if you have searched for a fare previously and potentially hike the rates for the destination you were viewing. The easiest way to do this is to go into incognito mode. Going incognito is easily done in Google, or you can download something like CCleaner, so cookies are not being saved.

The layover
It may be cheaper to book a flight that has a layover in the destination you want. If you decide to do this make sure you call and cancel the remaining leg. The website skiplagged is great for finding these deals or adding a second destination to your trip.
